Political Activist Brittany McCoy!
As a proud Bronx native & graduate of Virginia University, Brittany's passion for activism and politics was born at 16 years old during the heights of both the movement to end unconstitutional Stop & Frisk tactics in New York City and the fight for justice in the killing of 17 year old Treyvon Martin. Committed to activism throughout her undergraduate career and beyond. Brittany has been a voice of resistance against the school to prison pipeline and police brutality, while continuously shining a light on issues of social injustice in the black community. While at Virginia University, Brittany served as Senior & Junior class president and promoted millenial civic engagement as the connection chair of the Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Her diverse professional background stretches across multiple areas of the political field. Brittany currently works at the Bronx Defenders as the interdisciplinary Policy Director and is the youngest Director in the organization. In her role, she works to uplift community voices in policy discourse surrounding social injustice issues in the Bronx and leads community discussions, advocacy days and public education events for Bronxities. She strives everyday to speak truth to power, fight against racial injustice and increase the civic engagement levels of young people across New York City.
